課程概述

The knowledge base of social work practice comes from a
wide spectum of social science disciplines including
pshchology, sociology, and other science. The course will
provide the conceptual, ethical and practical basis for
analyzing social problems and issues and translating these
theoretical constructs into social work practice.

 

課程目標
 This course aims to review social work practice "theories", to offer an
assessment and arrive at an understanding of them and their value in morden
social work practice. It is about social work practices "theories", which try
to explain, describe or justify what social workers do.

Each session will describe and discuss how we have applied the basic
principles of the "theory" in social work practices "theory" and show how
theory is used in a comprehensive prescription for social work activity. We
will try to help students in understanding the following topics:

a. making sense of theories and methods of social work
b. using psychodynamic theories in social work
c. using crisis intervention and task-centered theories in social work
d. Using behavioural theories in social work
e. Using cognitive theories in social work
f. Using system theories in social work
g. Using theories based on social psychology in social work
h. Usingradical theories in social work
i. Using theories of advocacy and empowerment in social work
j. Using humanist/existential theories in social work

 
課程要求
 Students of the class are expected to do before-class preparations and all
the assignments given after
every class.

There will be writing tests for the mid-term and the final. Also there will
be exercises to be done at home.

As the reading materials will either be uploaded to the CEIBA class page or
distributed to the individual e-mail box, it is expected that all students
have proper computer equipments and essential operating skills to get the
class work going.

The class are also expected to keep close attention to the announcements on
the bulletinboard to be well informed of what-to-dos and how-to-dos for the
course.
